The Gainesville Heat were created in the 2012-2013 season as an expansion franchise.
The Heat's head coach, Joshua Randolph, was arrested before the Heat's first season in 2012 on charges of theft, forgery, and bank account fraud. He was promptly suspended from the ABA.
