History[]
The Vermont Frost Heaves began life as a new ABA franchise originally owned by Sports Illustrated writer Alexander Wolff. Wolff's team would find instant success in the ABA, as the Frost Heaves had a dedicated fanbase, a stable financial backing, and two back-to-back ABA championships - one in 2007, and another one in 2008.
In the 2008-2009 season, the Frost Heaves left the ABA for the Premier Basketball League over frustration of the instability of the league. The Frost Heaves did not find as much success as they did in the ABA, and by the 2010 off-season, the franchise was on the verge of folding.
It was then that a group of fans, headed by Don Mandelkorn, formed GO Heaves, Inc., a nonprofit, fan-owned company to buy the team after the previous owners, which included Vermont's mayor, Thomas Lauzon, could not save the team.
The Frost Heaves ultimately folded in the middle of the 2010-2011 season, and it's players were dispersed via a dispersal draft.
